Prosperous Melbourne. (FROM A CORRESPONDENT.) Melbourne, January 16.
The " boom " in city and suburban land 3 continues, and almost every day there issome big property changing hands. Ife isgottingquitemonotonous tohear that certainsites in or near Collins-street have been sold : from fifty to a hundred pounds. Two gentlemen, especially, have been buying a prodigious amount of property, so much so that ib is believed that, wealthy as they are knowri tobe, their purchases must, many of them, be on behalf of syndicates of English capital There is a good deal of English capital at present in Melbourne for investment, and this fact has no dotibt its influence in sustaining the price of land during the present boom. Suburban land goes off as well as city property, and every Saturday there are six to a dozen land sales, with their, usual accessories of free trains, free omnibuses,, or free lunches. The tramways are developing a great deal of land in districts that have hitherto been difficult of access from the city, and in every direction prices are asked that are at least double of those obtained three or four years back.
