A Future Emperor on Socialism.

The Berlin correspondent of " The Times " gives some particulars of a meeting which was held in Berlin the other day at the house of Count Waldersee and attended by Prince William. In fact, it was at the instance of the Prince that the meeting was called. "It was merely," Prince William explained, " to devise means of promoting the work of the Stadt mission that the meeting had been summoned. They proposed to form an influential committee which would issue an urgent appeal for subscriptions. In the course of his introductory address, which lasted about 20 minutes, the Prince dwelt on the nationalistic and revolutionary tendencies of the times, as especially displayed in large cities, and argued that the best means of combating these tendencies was to strengthen popular respect for authority and for the Crown by bringing the masses back to Christianity and the Church. In their capital the doctrines of social democracy and anarchy were Btriking ever deeper root, and the antidote was Christian evangelisation. Herr Stocker explained what had been done in this respect in London by the late Lord Shaf tesbury, but Berlin was still very far behind. This meeting was interesting in more ways than one, showing as it did the direction of Prince William's ideas and tho seriousness with which he contemplates tho prospect of succeeding to the throne — sooner perhaps than he nad imagined."
