A Private's Private letter.
About a dozen years ago, the writer's father | was a sergeant-major in one of Her Majesty's ! light cavalry regiments abroad. In the same troop was a private of the name of Teddy Hogan, who co.uld neither read' nor write, and consequently he had to have what few letters he' received from the "old country " read to him. His choice invari^ ably fixed on the sergeant-major as the man I whom he could' best" trust with his private correspondence. <l One day, however, •he Knocked at the door, and when I opened it there was" Teddy with a very' grave' faco and a* letter in his hah'd; ''• Well, Teddy,,?
