A Colonial Ammunition Factors .
Messrs 0. Kynock and Co., Limited, of Birmingham, have made a proposal to the Victorian Minister for Defence for establishing an ammunition factory in the colonies. They make the conditions that Victoria, jSTew South Wales, South Australia and Queensland willguarantee to takea minimum quantity of 10,000,000 lounds of caitiidgea per annum ; grant them a suitable site of 25 acres in extent for the erection of their factory: allow them to impoit duty free any materials required in connection with their factory ; advance them conjointly a loan of L 15.000, to be lepaid pi actually; the agreement to be in force for loyeais.; and the cost of the ammunition to be between 10 and 15 per cent, dearer than the imported ammunition ; and the tirm suggest that if representatives be appointed fiom the different Governments to meet and consider the proposals they will send a member of the firm to attend and supply any fiuther information desired. The Minister for Defence states that the Queensland and South Australian Governments are willing to enter into negotiations, and that the Government of New South Wales has also been communicated v> ith.
