THE CHOLERA IN SOUTH AMERICA.
Reports from Chili regarding the cholera, under date of May Ist, are very encouraging. The number of deaths at Santiago di Chili, the capital, and Valparaiso had decreased notably, only six having taken place in both cities within twenty-four hours, though fourteen new cases had appeared. Free communication has been restored between the capital and Valparaiso, and steamois now sail regularly on their trips along the Southern Coast of Chili without detention and delay, and it is possible that within a fortnight the dreadful visitant will have entirely disappeared. Up to May Ist 2,573 persons had fallen victims to the epidemic in Santiago de Chili alone.
