London, February 14 — The steamship companies do not feel disposed to alter the duration of the contract fur the carriage of the mails to Australia Sir Graham Berry has suggested that the term should be eeven years. An iototvbw with reference to the carriage of mails to Australia took place to-day between the Agents-General of Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Mr Blackwood (secretaiy of the Post office), and the managers of the Peninsular and Oriental and Orient Companies. Mr Black wood promised to communicate with tbe two companies on Wednesday or Thursday next, when he would inform them what decision the Government had come to with regard to the postal contract.

London, February 11.— The remains of the late Archbishop Vnughan were interred at Belmont Priory on Tuesday. But little ceremony was observed, the whole cost of the obseques being; under ten" pounds.
