WELLINGTON, Oct. 6.
Colonel Whitmore has received the fpllowing cable from the Commissioner of the Police, Sydney :—: — " Sydney, October 6.—Commissioner of Police, Wellington. Offender in custody admits being John Caffrey. He also states that Perm and Lizzie Graham were drowned by the cajjsizmg of the boat in attempting to land. " The statement, however, is doubted. " A further, search is being made. —Edmond Fosberry."
The Ragged School Union of London, England, has 'under'its care 215 Sunday afternoon and evening schools,' attended by 42,304 children ; 173 day and weeknight Hchools, with 'an attendance of 8,074 ; and 76 industrial schools, with an attendance of 3,538. It has 3,507 voluntary unpaid teachers.
