KING HUMBERT NOT SCARED.

A sergeant of infantry garrisoned at Monza attempted to kill himaelf with a rifle. Among his effects was found a lettor addressed. to the King, stating that he bad been deputised by a secret society to kill the King, but preferred to die himself, and commending his mother to the King's care. When taken before a magistrate, the sergeant adhered to the statements in his letter, but refused to divulge the name of the society. King Humbert, on reading the letter, said that the man must be a lunatic who wished to create a sensation by committing suicide.
