DOMAIN BOARD MEETING.

Thk usual monthly meeting of the Te A roh a Thermal Springs Domain Board, was held on Saturday evening last. Present : Messrs G. Wilson (chairman) Ahie'r, Gavm, a»d Quiun. "Mr Gavin apologised for the absence of Mr Lipsey, who was unable to attend. Minutes of the previous monthly meeting were read and con finned. Mr Quinn expressed a desire, ikat the minutes of nil meetings should be recorded more fully, that all resolutions proposed, whether seconded or not, be included, aho, that the mover aud seconder in every case be recorded. On the motion of Mr Quiun, in was resolred that in future the minutes be taken down in minute book as the business progressed, and read orer at the eiose of each meeting. Messrs Gavin and Quinn, stated that Mr James was merely appointed to assist in the clerical work. It was never intended he ghould assume the duties of secretary ; aud at Mr Quinns leanest, Mr Ahier, as the responsible secretary of the Board, at this stage proceeded to take the minutes, instead of Mr James who had previously been doing bo. Considerable discussion ensued with respect to the duties of the secretary. The Chairman and Mr Ahier gtated. there was a great amount of work in connection with the office. Finally on the motion of Mr Quinn, seconded by Mr Gavin, it was reaolred, that a special meeting ba convened for that day fortnight for ihe purpose of taking into consideration the position of secretary. --"Mr Quinn having requested at a previous meeting, tiata balance sheet be pioduced, the secretary now laid one on the table from January Ist to June Ist, ISB6, by which it appears the takings for that period amounted to J&317 16s 6d ; of this Bam L 99 3s had been paid in salaries to caretaker, supervisors, etc. ; wages, labourers, L5B 2s ; etc. etc., total expenditure for the five months amounting to L 303 2s 7d. Mr Quinn stated, what he wanted Was a complete balance sheet. On the motion of Mr Gavin, seconded by the chairman it was resolved that a statement be prepared by the secretary and Engineer to be laid before next meeting, snowing particulars aud amount expended on each work. Correspondence. — Mr R. Brennan wrote applying for the right to use the interior of the l»ath houses, for advertising purposes for ton years ; and offering to pay Ll per annctni for this priril«»ge for first five years L 2 per annum for the last five years, the advertisements to be placed in moveable frames ; applicant to have the ri^ht granted him to erect honrding, etc., within the Domain grounds for same purpose, the hoarding to bo only placed where the Beard apI proved of. Held over till next meeting. ! From T. L. Green, Te Aroiia, offering to supply trees at following prices : [ pinus insignis : 200 or more at 15s per 100 : fivo year old walnuts at 2s each, etc. etc. ; and a variety of other trees at low rate*. Consideration deferred. J. L. Chalmers, Te Aroha, wrote complaining the caretaker had accused him of not paying for a bath ticket, epoken insultingly to him ; aud threatened to refuse admittance to his children. j On the motion of Mr Qainn it was ! resolved that both parties be requested to attend the next meeting at 7.30 p.m. \ in order that the matter might be inves^ tigated I John Mann : Hautapu wrote offering to supply pinus insignus Ll per 100. Letter received. The Waikato Times Agent wrote applying for an advertisement respecting the springs similar to that now inserted by the Board in the Aroha and i Ohxnbhdbz News. Consideration deferred. Hon Minister of Lands wrote, stating that with respect to the proposed appointment of a Doctor for the district, to look after the natives, he had found on enquiring that the number of ] nativeg at Te Aroba would not justify j the appointment or subsidising a mcdi- I cal officer to look after them. ! Intended Improvements. — The chairman referred to the Hon. Sir Frederick j Whifcakers' risits to Te Aroha daring the past summer Sir Frederick had strongly advised the Board to apply for an extension of land, so as to include a portion of the hill and bush, at the rear of the grounds, promising to support any such application. After discussing the matter at some length, the chairman was requested to instruct the engineer, Mr Crump, to prepare a tracing showing the additional land the Board desired to obtain, and showing how it was proposed to expend L2OOO, which the board proposed applying for in order to, further develope the springs, and improve the grounds ; copies of said tracing to be forwarded Sir Frederick "Whitaker, Hon. Mr Ballance, and Mr J. B. Whyte, same time. The receipts for the past week were stated to be L 6.
