ReraoTal of License. — Mr Lush, acting on behalf of Mr J. H. Walsh, made application for the removal of the license granted to the Owharoa Hotel at Owharoa to a building to be erected , at Karangahake. Plans and specifications of the proposed new building were ' submitted to the inspector and approval of the Bench. A petition signed by some 43 persons residents of Karangahake, protesting againsfc the granting, of permission to remove the license, was i presented to the committee, and Mr A i B. Whitaker appeared to represent the petitioners. Mr Lush quoted from sec- ! tion 97 of the Licensing Act, to show j that the petition was invalid inasmuch af the ages of the persons signing were not atated, and that being the case Mr "Wbitaker bad no locus etandi, and therefore could Uke no part whatever in the proceedings. The Bench upheld Mr Lush's contention, and therefore the petition was thrown out. Messrs Chambers, Gillon, and Browne, three of the petitioners, gave evidence to the effect ♦hat in their opinions there was no necessity for increased hotel accommodation in the Karangahake district. Mr Lush Addressed the Bench at some length in support of Mr Walsh's application, stating that the Yerj fact of Mr Walsh being willing to expend a lar^e sum of

money iv Iho eiecti.cn of a ftood house, wus sufficient to prove tkftt tlieio was room for a aecoud house in tho Karaugahake district. After a considemblo amount of diseussicm, the Bonch adjouruod the application till tho next quarterly luoetiug, so as to gire Mr Walsh time to go with oa the erection of tbe proposed building. This being all the business, the Court then adjourned.
