ENTERTAINMENT AT TE AROHA.

An entertainment in connection -with the Te Aroha Band of Hope, was held on last Monday evening in the Public Hall. The programme submitted was of a most varied character, and frequently elicited applause from the very large audience assembled. Rev. Oliver Dean occupied the chair and opene 1 the proceedings with a few well chosen remarks. Recitations were given by Misses L. Suiithe,L.Gerrish,and P, Mills (the last lady being especially good and received nn encore) and by Masters W. Sinclair, F. Pavitt, and Mr Goath, the Jatter gentleman recited in really first class style and well earned the hearty applause accorded. A scene from the play of " William Tell" vraB well gone through by lour youthful teetotallers, and songs were rendered, all in capital style by Misses Smythe. Tonge, Cocks, and Pavitt, and Messrs Burgess Vause and Whitehouse. A vocal doet by Messrs Guest and Whitehouse was well given, and so also was a vocal and instrumental duet by Miss Stnythe and Mr Whitehouse. A pianof orte duet " The Caleph of Bagdad" by t he Misses Waiuwright was very pretty indeed, excellently well rendered, and well merited the applause which followed. A comic duet, " Doctor Quack," by

Messrs Vause and Whitcbouse, in which was introduced some local and very '' hitting" verses, fairly brought down the house and was vociferously encored. • Much praise is-.dueto the Misses Wainwrightand McLatcheyfor the excellent manner in which those ladies played the accompaniments. One or two temperance songs were sung during the evening. After a few closing remarks from the chairman, the meeting terminated by'tho whole cf the audience rising and heartily joining in singing the National Anthem in honour of Her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria's 67fch birthday. Thanks are due to the Te Aroha brass band fpr the excellent music discoursed outside the hall early in the evening, and to Messrs Vauso and Whitehouse for their exertions to make the evening's entertainment thoroughly enjoyable.
