NEW QUARTZ REDUCTION WORKS.

Upon visiting the site selected for the abore mentioned plant a few days since, I vras agreeably surprised at the amount of work that has been accomplished in a very short space of time. The excavations for the building, as well as those for the water race, are now fairly advanced, and a considei*able quantity of the junk timber required for building purposes is already on the ground. The fiisfc instalment of the machinery consisting of stamper boxes, stampers, columns, &c, have been cnrfced out to and delivered upon the slope of the spur immediately above the battery site, aad the balance is expected to arrive early next week, when it will at once be carted out to its destination.

Silverton, — Since the low level was driven up to the point of connection with the winze, the work of timbering the level has been completed, and last week a chamber was started so a3 to facilitate future opeiations. In order to form this chamber the reef has been cut into for a distance of six feet going towards the footwall side and about 25lbs of very rich stone were secured on Monday last. From this point the manager has now got on hand about 300lbs of picked stone, and the general stuff appears very rich in the precious metals. Union. — In the face of the low level going north the reef is about 4 feet thick and there c.m be no two opinions with regard to the value of the stone which should yield handsomely by whatever process it may be treated. Bosemont. — Tho work of extending the low level has been considerably retarded owiug to the friable nature of the. country through which it is passing. Up to the present a large amount of timber has been required, but the country becomes firmer as the level advances into the hill, and good standing ground should be met with a few feet futther ahead. There is nothing of importance to record from any of the other mines. In all, the usual »urk is going on with very favourable results.
