Papakura Annual Races. Auckland, May 3,
The Papakura annual race meeting took place on Saturday last, and a more unsuitable day could not have been selected. Heavy rain fell at intervals, and together with a cold wind and sloppy course, it made things very unpleasant. About 500 spectators were present, the great majority of whom came from Auckland by Bpecial train. Mr E. Mitchelson, M H.R., officiated as judge, Mr Jt O. Evett as handicapper, Mr W. J." Marks as clerk of the scales, and Mr J. Chadwick as clerk of the course. Results are appended : — Hurdle Race of 50sovs. Two miles. Approaching the hjme turn and entoring.the straight, Torpedo had 'a- two lengths lead, and it appeared|a ; bit'of odds on him, but Armourer,. Victory,- and Clogs came with a wet sail, and half, a-dozen yards from the winning- pos f the whole four were abreast. A couple of stfidea .further on, however, Victory and Arriiourer managed to slightly forge ahelud, the judge' declaring it a deadheat betvc?en s Victory and Armourer. The pair Subsequently ran it off, ' when Victbry won by a le'ugth. u The NaviiL Race of 20aoys. was won by Messrs It. and R Duder's Derby, defeating Tinman OtaTa, anl Soukai*. Hodson rode the wimer.
