The New Zealand Stud Company Purchase Nordenfeldt. Auckland, April 30.
Negotiations have been pending between the directors of the New Zealand Stud Company and the Hon. J. White for some weeks past with regard to the purchase of Nordenfeldt as a stallion, and this morning they were concluded; the Victorian Derby winner once more becoming the property of the Company for the sum of 2,000 guineas, The horse was to be shipped for Auckland to-day in the s.s. Wairarapa, and he will arrive here on Wednesday next along with the six mares and foals 'that were purchased at Mr DeMestre's sale. The Company are to be congratulated on their great enterprise, and their effort to improve our blood stock deserves to meet with the reward it juatly merits.
Sale of Blood Stock. At the Bale of Mrs C. H. Lushington's stock yesterday, there were a large number of visitors by special train, and many surrounding farmers were also present. The weather was unpleasant, rain falling heavily. Particulars of the sale are as follows : — Lady Nora, bay filly, 2yrs. , by Cadogan — Steppe, started at 100 guineas, and was knocked down to Mr Bobbett for 200 guineas Green Mount, bay colt, 2yrs., by Anteros — Lady Mary, started at 55 guineas, and sold to Mr D. Twohill for 100 guineas. General Thornton, bay colt, 2yrs?., by Apremont— Nelly Moore, started at 50 guineas, and sold for 140 guineas to Mr W, Proffitt. Tennyson, chestnut colt, 2yrs., Anteros — Fancy. This horse who is full brother to Poet, started at 30 guineas, and was bought by Col. Fraser for 90 guineas. Lionel, ches nut colt, 3yrs., Liolinus — Petroleuse. This colt, which coat 45 guineas as a yearling, was started at 30 guineas and was knocked down for 55 guineas to Mr Brown. Lioness, chestnut filly, 3yrs., by Ldolinus — Miss Laura, started at 20 guineas, and passed at 105 guineas. Feverole, 2 years, by Feve out of Lyra, was started at 50 guineas, and passed at 110 guineas. Nemosis was sold to Mr Black, of Gisborne, for 65 guineas, and Mr W. Y. Dennett, of Napier, became the purchaser of the Musket — Moonlight filly for 75 guineas. A number of hunters and hacks were also disposed of.
The stallion King Cole (sire of Nelson) was shipped from Sydney for Auckland this afternoon. Mr W, E. Dakin has made an offer of 300 guineas for the steeplechaser Guy Fawkes, and there is a probability of it being accepted. At Christchurch, yesterday, Capt. Cotton sold Mr P. Butler's brown horee Fusilier, 4yrs, by Musket -Yatterina, for 400 guineas, to Mr R. Orr, of Oamaru, who intends using him as a sire.
