COAL MINE ON FIRE. Three Lives Lost. [REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] SYDNEY, February 15.
The Lithgow colliery has taken fire. Three men arc known to bo still in the workings. The wholo place is now a mass of smoke. Evory effort is being made to rescue those who are down, but it is feared the exertions will prove fruitless, Later. Furthor telegrams are to hand from Lifchgow rolativo to the outbreak of firo in ono of the coal mines near the township. The exertions made to rescuo the mino manager and two of the miners unable to ofloct their escape roaulted in the recovery of the mine manager in an unconscious state. The other two mon wero brought up dead. They had apparently been suffocated. The Latest. Sydney, February 16. The fire is still burning at Lithgow Colliery, and all efforts to extinguish the flames havo proved unavailing. The manager of the mine, who was rescued in a state of insensibility, has sinco died.
