The usually pleasant Spring Meeting under the auspices of the Auckland' Racing Club took place at Blleralie on Tuesday Nov 10, The weather was beautiful, and the " going " very good. There was about 3,000 present. Trial Stakes of lOOsovs, with a sweepstakejof 3s jvb each to go to second horse. Weight for age. For 3-year-olds and upwards. One mile. Mr W. Here Mitrailleuse went up, and
got on terms with the 'filly, Rewi being third, THe others tailed off. ,A good* race home ensued between the trio, until the dint&nce post Was reached, when Wood-" nymph shot out from the ruck, and won 1 cleverly by half i a length. Tamoana was the first to get on her legs, but after 50 yards had been traversed, Reproach got on terms with her, rest of the field in a cluster, Reproach, Petroleum, and Scot Free in close attendance, and a great race ensued, Scot Free just managing to get up in last lew strides, and succeeded in gaining the judge's verdict by a neck. Time, lmin 6sec. Tetalieator dividend, £17 9e. The Prince of Wales Handicap of ISOsovs, added to a sweepstakes of 3sovs each, second horse to receive 20sovs, and third horse ssovs out ot the stakes. For 3-year-olds and upwards. One and a miles miles. Cinderella ... ... ... ... ... 1 Woodnymph 2 Sir Bedevere .. 3 In addition to the placed horses for the Prince of Wales Handicap, the other starters were : Rewi (aged, 7st 71b, Pearson), Kalo (6yrs, 7st 31b, G. Laing), Nannie (aged, 7st, G. Williams), Revolver (4yrs, 6st 101b, R. Kidd), and Victoria (syrs, 6st 71b, Mcllroy). Betting : 3 to 1 Cinderella, Woodnymph, and Victoria, 4 to 1 Rewi, Nannie, and Revolver, 5 to 1 others. Revolver was the first to move, followed by Kalo, with Woodnymph last. Coming past the stand Revolver still led the field, Victoria and Rewi being his immediate attendants. At the back of the course the whole field closed up to the leaders, and the proverbial blanket would have covered the lot, but nearing the turn for home Cinderella and A oodny mph were seen to come out from the field, and the pair led by a length into the straight, with Sir Bedivere in close attendance. A splendid race home ensued, resulting in Cinderella winning by half-a-length, with Sir Bedivere third, close on W oodny mph's girth 3. Time, 2min 45sec. Totalisator dividend, £3 ss. Fair Play and Misfortune made the running for the first part of the journey, but the second time round, Julia Ann and Hawthorn were taken to the front, and led the field, with Reform third, and Fair Play and Misfortune some distance in the rear. Coming down the hill for home, Julia Ann commenced to tire, and Hawthorn and Reform took the sod wall almost together, and a slashing race home ended in Reform winning rather easily at the finish by a clear length. Balmain's b f Reproach, 2yrs, 7st 21b (Kidd) S J. Bair Brown's b gSt. Michael (3yrs, Bst 111b, Ferguß), Lushington's Lioness (3yrs, Bst 91b, Heaton), J. K. Atherton's eh i Nemesis (3yrs, Bst 91b, G. The lot were despatched to a wretched start, of which Petroleum and Scot Free had a length's advantage. The pair led the field at a great bat the remainder oi the journey, and a desperate struggle home ended in Petroleum winning by a half-a-length, the same distance separating Scot Free and Reproach.
