THE MINES.

New Find. — The drive on No. 1 reef north troin lo r level has been pushed on with all possible speed. During the recent wet weather a considerable quantity of water collected in the winze with wnich this drive is intended to coring ct, but is fust draining away again now, and tne manager expects to complete the connection witfiiu a month. When this has been effected it will place n large block of ground ready for stopiug out. Xii No 1 reef above Arizona level, stoping is being carried, on. Tne reef .-till continue* to look well, witli fail gold showing. Breaking out quartz is still being proceeded with from the surface of No. 1 reef, and good crushing dirt being obtained. fcJtopi.ig has been com.Menurd on a blocs on No. 2 reef, nbove No. 1 level north from the winze, and very fair gold is showing through the stone being obtained. The rock drills have been starte I to work in this mine, at present being used on No. 1 reef low level north, and so far give satisfaction, and no doubt when the men, in charge have become iqore accustomed to working these implements, they will be found to effect a considerable saving in the working of the mine, especially when driving through hard ground. In the Diamond Onlly section of the ground breaking down the reef has been proceeded with, and fair g-»ld is seen, through the quartz. The reef is again being stripped, and crushing from this section of the Company's ground will be started at once, and included in this month's returns.

Canadian. — The time announced for receiving ten<lera for the breaking out of 300 trucks of quartz tor the Battery Company for this mine, was extended. We have not heard of t the contract having been let, and understand there is a probability of its b-nng let privately.
