DEATH OF MOKENA HOU (Otherwise Morgan).
Moke n a Hou died on Monday last, 27th oik. He was descendant chief of the Ruinga, through Kor< k>, Tamainupo,Koperu, Tamatehura and Hape ancestor of Maraluahu. At the time the Europeans first came to Hauraki district, that is the Mipionerie?, the Rev. Mr Dudley (we believe father of Archdeacon Dudley now of Auckland), baptised him, and he was afterwards confirmed by Bishop Selwyn. After his confirmation he worke 1 as a minister amongst his own people, and was always a faithful member of the Church of England. He was very active in putting down disturbances in the Hauraki district. His last words to those around him were " Stand fast to the Christian religion, so that I shall be pleased to look upon yon, and be kiui." It is now some 40 years ago since he embraced Christianity since when he has always called upon God to fchtf day of his death. He was supposed to be nearly 90 years of age, and only survived his late wife Hve weeks, in- fact the loss of his aged partner greatly affected the old man, and without doubt lastened his end. He had been ailing 'or about ten days, beiii# unable to le ye his bed during the last week of his it'e. We understand that he bequeathed the whole of his properly to his r two youngest children, viz., David Morgan
