Change of Management. At the meeting of the Piano County Council on Wednesday 'ast, the followjng monthly report .of the Tramway "Manager was read : To the Chairman Piako County Council, Cambridge. Sir, — I have the honour to report for the information of the Council th it the revenue derivable from the tramway for the four weeks ending Saturday, December 1 3th) is as follows : Ist week. I^4 trucks at 4S 6d, £ 1 8s ;up carriage, £2 7s. Total, £43 15s. 2nd 'week. 196 trucks at 4s 6d, £44 2s ; up carriage, 19s. Total, £45 Is. 3rd week. 176 trucks at 4s 6d, £39 12s ; up carriage, 13s. Total, £43 11s 6d. 736 trucks at 4s 6o\ £165 12s ; up carriage, £7 0s 6d Total, £172 12s 6d I Jhave to recommend that the following alterations be made to Butler's SpUr during the holidays. The top of the spur to be made up to the straight lino of the grade, and the small ho.low about the centre of the grade to be raised three (3) fee',. The brake gear ro be shifted from its present position to fhe top of the grade about the same distance back as the Pern Spiir brake. I would recommend also that this work be dono by contract. If the council decide that the above works shall l»* gone on with, I shall be obliged if yon will let hip know as early as possible, in order that I inuy prepare for letting the work. I have just gone into the matter of expense, ami estimate the cost of making the above alterations will be about £175. H. H. Adams, Manager. Respecting the suggestion that £175 should be spent in improvements Cr Smith did not think that such an' expen lifcure was at all necrs9ary. He had visited the tramway in company with other members of the council, and they all considered that the improvement suggested was needless. The other councillors were of the same opinion, and it was accordingly agreed that' nothing shoal 1 be done in the matter. Management. — Cr Chepmell thought it was near time the council took some steps in respect to arranging for the future management of the tramway., To his mind the matter seemed to be in abeyance long enough. They were all doubtless aware that both the chairman of the tramway committee and the tramway manager had 1 resigned dnring the existence of the oil council, and their resignation had been accepted, tm I the management was now being carried on sjmply by the custody of those gentle men. It was near time that the whole business of the tramway should be put on a satisfactory basis. He felo very sorry tliat the chairman of committee was not present, but he did not see that the council should wait any longer. He thought the best thing they could do was. to; let the present foreman, t Mr Cooksqn, go on as manager, and if there weve m\j slip )r accident which required the services 1 of an < engineer, the county engineer. wag available. . . „ 1 Mr Murphy did not altogether agree , with this proposition. As Mr Adams had resigned his position as manager, he would suggest*trjat ,he be askea to<aet as consulting engineer, He felt thoroughly convinced ,th,jt in overlooking Mr.Adams's vast experience, particularly £o faHvs the tramway was concerned,* the council would triake.a.greatjmistake, and the loss wouM be their, ojyn.
