At a meeting of the Piako Coanty „. Council on Wednesday, Mr Pavifct m± ported that some necessary repairs hud been done to the road between Te Aroha and Waiorongomai, and also, on the* upper pack track. He asked permissionto have something done to that portion* of the upper pack track where the'Dia-" mond Gully creek crosses it, cost to be* about £12. He forwarded a, list, of tracks proposed to be formed for the 1 purpose, of faciliting and encouraging prospecting operations, with the estimated cost ~of • each. These 7 were as» follow :—: — No. 1. Widening and improving the present pack track, from the Thermal Springs JReserve, Te Aroha, to the top* of the Bald Hill, 80 chains, cost : £100. IF this work is (lone, provisions can hecarried by horses to the back country from t\ c stores. No. 2 Make a new track from the 1 , Bald Hill, round under the sonth of mount To Aroha, and above the present claims, connecting it with the tramway at its tiM-uii.ius, distance . 270 chains, cost : £270, tit 20s per chain. All the tracks should be made at least 4 feet wide on the sidlings, and the bush fallen half a chain wide. N r ' No. 3. Upper Pack Track'. — Widen and improve the present pack track, at Waiorongomai, cost, : £250. This « a most .necessary work, as the road in its present condition is almost impassable, and will of course in winter be quite stopped? I may state there are about 40 familiaa, besides single men y living along this road, and to whom> its condition is of the utmost importance, as their daily supplies are carried to them by it. Lower Track. — Some culverts arid.' small bridges will be require* l on this mad, and if they could be fixed before - winter the present fair condition of the- • road would be maintained. The cost will be £iOO. The amount of. money expended an this road by Mr P Perguso'i is £423, to be repaid to him? Cas he in- C forms me) by the council.
