About 3,000 persons attended the Wellington Jockey Club (Steeplechase- Meeting on Saturday. Early Bird (lOst. 61b.) easily won the big event, Wideawake (lOst.) being second, and Jumbo (lOst. ) thi rd. Coaoher, Black Doctor, Tarnell, Surrey, and Home Rule also started. Coacher was the favourite, but fell at the post and rail fence the second time round, and was injured so severely that he had to be destroyed. The Sessions Handicap fell to Pilgrimage, who beat eight others ; and Blackbird won the Selling Steeplechase. £1,200 passed through the totalisator. Wellington, July 12. It is doubtful if tho Wellington Jockey Club Steeplochaso Mooting cau be hold today owing to wet weather. The stewards hold a mooting this morning Uo decide. Later. — It has been deci' ied to proceed with the races. Clarence and King Arthur have been scratched for the big event,, and Surrey for the Maiden Steeplechase. Maiden Stjsei-lkohase. Sheenan's The Lad Avon the J.C. and Handicap Steeplechases, Mr P. Butler's Mustard the Hurdles, and Mr Hobbs's Mcody tho Consolation.
