City Wjcst. — Mr Dargavillo is evidently apprehensive of opposition, but it is quoationable if a Government candidate would have any chance against him. The sitting member, it will be seen, has published an address to the electors, in which he announces his intention of giving a public exposition of his views on an early date. Newton.— Mr Swanson's determination to retire appears to be unaltered, and there should be no difficulty in securing this seat for the Opposition. A number of the electors express dissatisfaction with their raembor'sactionp, and should hebe prevailed upon by his friends to seek re-election,he is certain to be opposed. Pabnell. — A considerable section of this constituency are offended by the recent 1 attitude assuinod by Mr Moss, the sitting member, and are labouring hard to secure his defeat. On Saturday last a telegram was sent to Mr S. T. George, M.H.R. for Itodney, inviting him to contest the Parnell seat. We are not aware whether that gentleman has resolved upon fighting Mr Moss, but tho probability is he will. ' Eden. — Though Mr J. A. Tole is very popular, that has not Bayed him from the threat of opposition. Mr A. W. O'Neill, Shortland-street, announces his candidature for the seat on a Liberal programme. Waitemata. — No opposition has yet appeared to Mr W. J. Hurst, the sitting membor, but there are ominous threats which may or may not bo carried out. New Plymouth, June 23. — A requisition is being numerously signed asking Sir Julius Vogel to stand for New Plymouth. A m< eting is to be held at Waitara on MonI day for the purpose of initiating a requisi- ' tion to Sir Julius to stand for Taranaki. ' Addresses have been issued by Mr B. M. Smith, Mr Whiteley Kin^, and Mr Charles Brown as candidates for New Plymouth. ' CiiuisTOHUKUii, June 23.— The statement that Sir Julius Vogel will stand for Christchurch North has been confirmed. Mr John Jebson will oppose Mr McMillan for Coleridge. Rev. C. Fraser, formerly Presbyterian minister, is a probable candidate for the same seat, Mr Ferguson, builder, will probably oppose Mr White for Sydcnham. Etforts are being mado to secure a Liberal candidate to op23ose Mr ! Harper for Avon. Mr J. D. Lance lias j decided to become a candidate for Cheviot, i Dunedin, Juno 23. — Messrs Wathon and Cairn cross oppose Mr Fulton for Taieri. I Mr David Forsyth, of Dunodin, opposes Mr McDonald for Bruce. Gisi'.OKNE, June 23. — At the official declaration of the poll, Mr Roes threatened proceedings against Mr Locke, for inlluencing the election through paid agents. Mr Gannon said the next contest would lie between tbo liberal and conservative parties. ,____
