ELECTION NOTES.
Thames, Juno 21. — Matters political are becoming interesting, and it is now almost certain that only four candidates will offer themselves for tho the Thames seat. It is generally understood that neither Dr. Kiigour nor Mr Bagnall intend seeking electoral honours, and tho field will bo left to Mr Speight (formerly representative of City East), Mr Ifraser (Mayor of Borough and ex -KM.), Mr McGowan (a hard-headed business man, who has always been prominont in local government), and Mr McCullough (journalist).
CAMBiiiDaji. June 2].— Private informa tion has been received hero to the effect thai Mr W. F. Buckland, is likely to conteat Waipa against Messrs Whitaker and Jackson. Mr Lake, the other candidate spoken of, has, I understand, abandoned his intention. There is as yet no talk of oppositioa to Mr J. B. Whyte, in Waikato. [They must know vei;y little in Waikato, to be unaware that Mr Buckland is in tho Hold for Franklin North.]

They will probably come out in the Conservative interest, and if so, efforts will be made to select from the number so as not to bplifc the votes ; but it is doubtful if Mr Hatch would agree to that, preferring to take his chance with the crowd. For Hokonui (Mr Driver's seat), Messrs .fames Gardener (runholder), G. McLeod (farmer and ex-woolmaster), T. Green (auctioneer), Cuthbert Cowan, and J, W. Bain are spoken of.
