A meeting in connection with thesiboro was held on Thursday evening last, to consider business relating to election of officers ; to receiv" secretary's jhalnncesheet and report for six months, ending May, 168-4 ; and to deal with other matters of importance pertaining to the working of the Band oF Hope For t : i< 1 en-uing 6 months. Mr W. H. Hawkins was in the chair, and called upon the secretary to read the report an- haHncpsheet. The re; 0 t dwelt upon t u gen- - ral work*, conduct of commit, lee, etc., and of the :jooi' chat had be<'n dove in this small town through the instrumentality jjf the temperance movement. The booKS showed a total of 140 having signed the pledge, and about 136 of these proving good pledges. We hope as many moie will join t ie movement in rhe ensuing term and stand true to their colours. The balance-sheet showed receipts, £8 5s 9d ; and expenditure. £51 6s 6d, including the organ which was purchased some time ago, and which has caused much satisfaction, it being a magnificent instrument both in bevuty and tone. The balance-sheet and report were duly adopted. The property ij valued at £4 ( J. The election of officers resulted as follows : Mr W. H. Hawkins, president ; Mr E. C. Purdie, vicepresident ; Mr Lovell, superindent, secretary, and treasurer ; Messrs Hirst, J\ A. England, W. I. England, Forsman, Bamson, H. Soppett, Thorns, and Pugill were elected a committee.
