BOXING DAY SPORTS.
A LAnaE and influential meeting of business mon and others, convened by Mr F. Pavitt, was held ut tho Hot Springs Hotel on Monday evening lust, for the purpose of arranging for sports at Te Aroha during the Christmas Holidays. Mr Coleman was voted to the chair and Mr Pavitt was requested to act as secretary to the meeting.. It having been resolved to hold sports on Boxing Day, Mr T. Wells was elected President ; Messrs Pavitt, Cooper, and Quinlan, Handicappers ; Mr Pavitt, Secretary ; Mr Gr. Lipsey, Treasurer ; Messrs Cuff, anil O'Aallovan, Judges ; and Mr Quinlan, Starter ; and the followiag were appointed a Committee : Messrs Coleman, Cleary, Whitehouse, Quinlan, Hinton, Cuff, Heaphey, and Burke. A subscription list was then handed round the room with the result that upwards of £20 was subscribed. The canvassing for subscriptions was left to the following gentlemen— Messrs Cuff, Quinlan, Coleman, Cleary, Trude and O'Keef'e. At a meeting of the managing Committee held on Tuesday evening, the programme, which appears in our advertising column, was decided on. It includes eighteen events and the prize money totals £40, The big event will be called the Te Aroha Cup, the prize being given to the highest scorer of points in 100, 200, and 300 yards races. The committee have baen most energetic and we anticipate a goQd day's sport.
