MINES.

Premier. — The uien working in the rise jsn the No 1 reef havo broken through to the surface. This completes a winze on this reef about 160 ft. It is being connected with the surface drive on the No. 2 reef, .so that quartz from No. 2 can be sent down the winze. •Gold shows freely in the rise up to the Jast breaking down, the stone being pretty much the satue*at> usual.

Colonist; — Sinking the winze is being continued, and the drive on the reef is being pushed ahead, and the manager expects in a few feet to reach the point at which- he will start a rise to connect with the winze. The quartz and country continue to look well, and there is every probability that in working the gold hearing portion of the main reof smaller loades shall be discovered, which will be richer and better than the main body. This Company is admirably situated with regard to the tramway, aysa v s their paddock, which is within twenty feet of the main line, is capable of holding upwards of five hundred tons of quartz. We would recommend visitors to the Colonist to try •ome of the stone in the mortar.

New Find. — We learn that the contractors for the connection, &c, are not likely to go on with their contract, and that a higher price must be given for the work. No wx>rk except the connections is being done in the mine. Werahiko and Waitoki. — Mr Cameron has completed the hoppers and connections ■whiehfwere not very extensive, as the level is a . very short distance from the County tram. Thi Waitoki Company have made a3d call, and work is to be started immediately breaking out quartz to fill the hoppers and paddocks rjady for the battery. Here, also, it is likely that in working the pivsunt reef oihers and more va'uable one will be discovered, as there is abundance of most promising loades almost untouched, and the close of country is everything that could be desirved

Eubeka. — The rise is being* continued, and quartz coining from it seems to maintnin its usual steady gold bearing character,.

' WAIOR^NGOMAI. — This Company owns a block of well situated and likely country on which very little work lias been done. The cap of a reef some time since had been cut showing gold. Mr. Scott, the manager, has put in a cross-cut about 80 feet to intersect the reef. The reef was in hand on Saturday last, and has been cut through. We have seen some very nice ■tone well peppered with fine gold from the cross cut. it is intended to drive on the lode, which is about 2ft Gin when cut, -.with ahout, 50 feet of backs at piesent level. -. —

Lucky -^Hit. — Shareholders are preparing £pr-a trial crushing, and have collected some very good stone. Driving is being continued on the reef, and the quartz in the- paddock shows gold freely, and gold -is also showing in the face.
