JURY DISAGREE. MELBOURNE, Dec. 13. The jury disagreed in the trial of the Pierce brothers, charged with the St. Kilda murdep. Received 12 Noon. SYDNEY, This day. A proposal to amalgamate St. Stephens and the Scotch Church and make one Central City Church was defeated at the Presbytery by one vote. SYDNEY, This day. Professor criticising the system of school examinations, asked: “What is the use of a White Australia with a Chinese system of education by machinery3’ ’ Ho added: “It is a mistake to allot an equal number of marks on all subjects irrespective of their importance.’ ’ He suggested a bigger army of secondary schools inspectors, who would supervise the giving of certificates from schools which conduct their own examinations.
