But unfortunately we have Uie sneak thief amongst us; he who is of the most mean and selfish character; Who crawls in after dark and either steals or destroys the flowers grown by these little workers. He does Something worse than this: the result of his thieving is the discouragement of the children, which to my mind is amongst the worst of crimes, therefore appeal to him to at least consided the- children, and lot their couragei. and that the rest of us flowers grow, that they might be enmight enjoy the beauty of fully developed flowers and children.
SOCIAL AT BOX MILL. An impromptu 'social was held in the cook-house at the Egmont Box Company’s mill on Monday night. There was talent of an unsually good quality in evidence, and each Item was well received. A recitation or i “Lasca’ ’ by Mr Langston was well delivered and enthusiastically receivecr. Miss Chrissy Cummings, a girl of sxc years, rendered “Bubbles” in a strikingly sweet manner. Mr Mooney sanjg two Irish sentimentals, wMcn were enthusiastically applauded, an-* he also showed himselt no mean performer in sleight of hand and conjuring tricks. Mr Rimmer gave a couple of humorous items in typica? Lancashire dialetc, and received hearty applause. Mr Drummond was heard to advantage in a sailing song, and being rendered by an ex-sailor this item had an attraction of its own. Many other items delighted the gathering, and one who was prominent among the artists was> Mr Chas. Bailey, “Ohutu's Charlie Chaplin.V Mr Griffith presided at the piano, loanee? for the evening by Mrs Egan, and the thanks of the Ohutu workers are d ■ to Mrs Egan for her generosity. Altogether a very pleasant evening was spent.
