LOCAL BODIES’ LOANS.

The subject of local body finance and borrowing, in relation to the rate of interest, was " "discussed by the Prime Minister and the Mayor of Auckland (Mr J. H. Gunson), on Saturday morning. Subsequently Mr Massey said he believed the difficulties at present being faced by municipalities and other local authrities could be overcome. It would be necessary for him to confer with the officials of the Treasury in Wellington before coming to any decision; consequently he /was not able to state at present what action was contemplated. He rereiterated what he had stated previously, that any course of action adopted must apply to all alike; and with an insistent demand from all over the Dominion for money for local works, care must be taken in reaching a decision.
