ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
MOTORIST KILLED. COLLISION WITH A POST. t HAWEBA. Nov. 5. Thomas Kay, a farmer, aged 46, was driving clown a gorge in his motor car to his home at Whakamafa, when he met another car approaching. Mr Kay drove his car towards the side of the road and ran into the water channel. Mr Kay succeeded in getting Ms car back on to the road, but it again swerved in an erratic manner and ran into a post, which passed through the Wind screen, striking Mr Kay in the chest and rendering him unconscious. He was taken to the hospital, but died from Ms injuries. He leaves a widow and three children.
STRUCK BY LOCOMOTIVE. THE MOUNT EDEN FATALITY. AUCKLAND, Nov. 5. How John Daly Hayes, a vendor of “notions”’ of American birth, and formerly a sea-captain, was struck by an outgoing train from Auckland on ihe morning of October 16, and killed almost immediately, was related at .the resumed inquest to-day. Hayes, it appeared from the evidence of the engine driver of the train (G. P. Wallace), corroborated by the fireman A, Rogers), took a short-cut by a hoarded walk over the railway line at Mount Eden station, instead of using the overhead bridge provided for the public. : A verdict of accidental death was returned.
