PEOPLE’S DAY SPORTS.
Trophies have been offered for the following:— The Best Floral or Fern Design; The Best Novelty Class; The Best Naval or Military Turn-out; The Best Tradesman’s Turn-out; The 'Best School Horse; The Best Back-
! blocks Turn-out; The Bitst National ! Costume: The Most Original Horseman; The Most Humorous Pedestrian, * and for Children in Fancy Costume. With such a large field to choose I from there is sure to be competition | and some really excellent displays.
! The Taihape Band (under Mr Geo. I Brice) will lead the procession, j The procession committee consist of the following gentlemen, well-known for the enthusiasm and ginger they put into everything they undertake: Messrs Mortland, Taylor ; Smith, Marlow, Plowens, Auld and Eeid. The following sports have formed i themselves into the committee to run the various sports events on the day: Messrs Fookes, McLaughlan Bros., J. Ryan, Munro, A. M. Ryan, McLennan, Geo. Bray,, D. Bray, Bond, Anderson, Dunbar, Powell, Jamieson, Reid and Walsh.
1 The follo'wing events will be run ' off:—Golf Putting. Mr J. Mortland; Stepping the Distance, Mr O’Sullivan; High Jump, Mr S. Reid; Tug-o’-War, Mr S. Powell and Mr Jamieson; Ladies Tug-o’-War, Mr S. Powell and Mr Jamieson; Greasy Pig, Mr J. P. Aldridge; 100 Yards Handicap, Mr E. McLaughlan; Obstacle Race, Mr S. Reid and S. Dunbar; Children’s Races, Messrs Wilson, Hall, Aldridge, Thurston and Rev. Lea: Throwing the Hammer; School Teams’ Relay Race: Hop, Step and Jump, Mr S. Powell and Mr E. McLaughlan; Sack Race, Mr S. Powell and Mr E. McLaughlan; Potato Race. Mr S. Powell and Mr E. McLaughlan; Goal Kicking, Mr M. McLaughlan; Nail Driving for Ladies, Mr Emerson; Musical Chairs for Oars, Mr Emerson and Mr Davies; Horse Events, Mr Bray and Mr Sinclair.
