TOKIO, Oct, 28. j* The Yokohama silk exchange closed . on the 27th, when prices dropped below the minimum fixed by a buying .syndicate composed of a group of silk dealers with the eousent of Government officials. The exchange is consulting with the Government regarding the situation. The general depression in the silk industry is continuing. BRITADTS GREAT DEAD. LONDON, Oct. 30. j Admirals support a suggestion emanating from Portsmouth to bury au unknown sailor in the Abbey beside the unknown soldier. STATE OWNERSHIP FAILS. FRANCE SELLING OUT. I I „ ! PARIS, Oct. 31. i The Government is liquidating the State ownership Of merchant vessels, and has appointed a committee to' sell probably realising £1.6 per ton. The question of nationalisation is regarded as dead. The failure of the State operation is mainly due to the political atmosphere wherein it was conducted. Many ships built in ""Japan and America during war time are leaky. The operations of the State largely consisted" in laving up State ships and chartering foreign ships to do real work. BRITAIN AND GERMANY. LONDON,.Oct. SO. The Petit Parisien states that the French note to the British Government protesting against the surrender of the right to confiscate private pro•perty of Germans, firmly but courteously contends "that none of the Allies "cafi~ do so except with the common consent.
