APRES LA GUERRE.
BRITISH AND GERMAN
SCIENTISTS.
RECONCILIATION EFFORTS
Received 8.40 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 28
There is widespread discussion over the Oxford Professors' letter to their Austro-German colleagues, inviting, reconciliation of men of science. Correspondence published.in The Times discloses widely divergent views. s ßridges, the, poet laureate, originator of the letter, writes: "Unless we wish our enemies to remain" enemies, we must strive to make them more friendly. It was at a critical moment of ten-
sion that the German Professoriate al- j lowed their passions to get the upper j hand." . I
The, Times, in a leader, stoutly disagrees, and declares that Germany's wanton assault was long premeditated and prepared by the Professoriate. There was no proof that their doctrines; had been foresworn, and they cannot disayow the voluntary sacrifice of Britain's youth. It is manifest that the letter will tend to encourage Germany to believe she was morally victorious.
