A 'dramatic story is tolcf of the experience of the American destroyer Broom at. Kiel. The destroyer was ordered to the assistance of the battleship Pittsburg, which was ashore at Kiel. On her arrival the Pittsburg was refloated, but the Broom was instructed to stay. The German Admiral ordered the Broom to leave, as America was still at war with Germany. The American officer replied that he had orders to stay. "If you stay, I open 'fire."" responded the German. "Open fire: but here I stay till I am blown, out of the water/' replied the American officer. The Broom is still at Kiel unharmed.
