NEW YOEK, Sept. 14,
The State elections in Maine show a Republican majority of approximately forty thousand. Republican leaders claim that Maine has repudiated the Wilson administration and the League of Nations. Maine is the only State in the Union whose elections occur in September, instead of November, and it has become an axiom that the nation's vote always follows Maine's vote, although 1912 and 1916 were exceptions, the State then voting Republican and the nation Democratic.
The Republican leaders attach great importance to the Maine results, as it is said that the greater number of the women who voted? for the first time were Republican.
