GONE OVER THE BORDER.

FRED SIMPSON. A large circle of friends will regret to learn that Mr Frederick Simpson known to most people in Taihape as “Fred/’ passed away ,in the Public Hospital, on Thursday. He* had been a great sufferer, but such was not suspected, as he was ever genial of nature, by no means a grumbler, and to say the least he bore his sufferings, from very serious rupture, most stoically. Many years ago Fred Simpson was one of the most noted < because most successful, trainers and riders of racehorses in New Zealand. He was successful because he was characterisically honest and thoroughly trustworthy, and it is> safe to state that no racing man ever bore a more honourable record. He was compelled to retire earlier than he otherwise would have done owing to his affliction, but be was for years afTer active service, a very useful man as coach and adviser in racing stables. He led a life free from those excesses which men too. frequently drift into, and that will account for his living the allotted span despite the one serious affliction that took from him has natural activity. His genial face, his readr^ repartee will be missed by many inT’aihape whoso esteem “Old Fred’’ had earned. His funeral will leave the Taihape Public Hospital on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock for: the Taihape Cemetery.
