IRISH AFFAIRS.
POLICE INSPECTOR MURDERED. Received 9.40 am., LONDON, Aug. 23. District Inspector Swanzy, who was recently transferred from Cork, vvas murdered while going home from church at Lisburn to-day. Three moa armed with rifles shot Swanzy, v/ho was walking beside his mother md sister in the street, which was crowded with worshipper's. The assailants entered a waiting taxi cab, firing, at but not injuring, Captain Woods, Commandant of the local Ulster Volunteers, who was unarmed, but attempted to stop them.

TWO SERGEANTS SHUT DEAD. Received 9.50 am Sergt. Craddock, while patrolling at Athlone, was shot dead. The courthouse at Bantry was burned. The police evacuated the adjoining barracks on the previous day. Sergt. Maunsell was shot dead at Macroom. SINN FEIN HUNGER STRIKERS. DOCTORS THREATENED WI'lH DEATH. Received 9.50 a.m. LONDON, A.ug. 22. Thirty Sinn Fein hunger strikers in Cork gaol are in a weak condition, but the Government has refused to release them. The two prison doctors have received unsigned letters' fr">ra the Commander of the Cork Brigale of the Irish Republican Army threatening them with death if any hunger striker dies; but pointing out that they can evade their responsibility by immediately resigning.
POLICE PATROL FIRED ON. REPRISALS FDR MURDER. Received 10.5 a.m. LONDON. Aug. 23. Assailants fired on a police patrol in Dundalk. A constable was killed and two others wounded. In connection with reprisals for the murder of Constable FoTey at Oranmore, the police and soldiers burned' three public-houses to the grouul.
