With this help Russia anticipates that she will be able to drive the Poles from the Danzig corridor. The Soviet will then insist on the admission 0" Germany to the Peace Conference and back up German interests. Kopp has departed for Moscow to secure approval of the agreement.
POLISH COUNTER-MOVE.
REDS DRIVEN BACK. ___,..... Received 9.20 a.m. - LONDON. Aug. 8. A Polish communique suggests that the Polish counter-move continues in the neighbourhood of Drobiezyu and gained ground. The Poles succeeded in driving back the enemy who have crossed the Bug again to the north Bank. Particularly fierce fighting took place at the River Serith,» where the Bolshevik attacks —were repulsed, While the Ukrainian detachments successfully continue to counter-attack. TOWN SACKED BY REDS. It is ofiicially alleged that the Moscow wireless station’ ‘cwice declined to ‘receive the latest Polish Note, on’ :the pretext, firstly, of the alteration of the hours for the reception of messages, and secondly, on account of atmosphere disturbances, which the Poles state were non-existent.
SOVIET AND BRITISH PROPOSALS BLOCKADE PROBABLE. Recefved 9.15 am. ' LONDON, Aug. 8. ‘ An Exchange telegraph message confirms the report of the Bolsheviks’ unwillingness to accept the British proposals, and foreshadows a blockade unless the proposals ‘are accepted Within 48 hours.

Mr Lloyd eGorge, Welcomed M. Mi]lerand, and Marshal Foch at Hythe. The Mayorfs daughter, following the French custom, presented each visitor as he landed with a bouquet of carnations. Lord Curzon, Admiral Beatty, and the Mayors of Folkstone and Hythe were present.’ and a huge ‘crowd acclaimed the visitors as they proceeded to the Lympno for the Conference. SOVIET AND THEAARMISTICE.
POLAND BLAMED FOR DELAY. Received 9.35 am. ' LONDON, Aug_ 8. The Central News states that the Russians did not agree to a ten days’ ltruce with Poland. The S;ovi.et’s official reply states that it is resuming on Wednesday direct negotiations ‘with Poland for an armistice and peace. The Soviet blames Poland for the long delay.
ITALY OPPOSES BLOCKADE. MO'I3A’:L BENEFIT TO RUSSIA. Received 9.40 a.m. ROME, Aug. 8. Signor Sporza, in the Chambex-, discussing the Saint C-ormain Peace, declared that the blockade would be of greater advantage to the Soviet Government than to the Entente, owing fo the mofal efiect upon the fiussians. and it: was not. a policy with v.v‘:lich Italians should sympathise. The Communistic experiment in Russia. must be allowed to take its own course. prove its own strength or inability to continue, and must not be giv-in the honour of martyrdom. For those reasons Italy had entered into an agreenwent to receive the Ruszamn representative and to send an Il'alian representative to Russia to pmmote the economic development of both. countries.

The Note adds: The Soviet Government believes the British Government will acknowledge that the cessation of hostilties and Poland’s full inde~ pendence, , at which ‘the British Government aims, will be atfained in the speediest and simplest way by direct negotiations being resumed at Minsk.

The Soviet delegation in London announces that it informed the British Government last week that Russia undertakes to begin the withdrawal of troops to the line fixed by the Allied Supreme Council, immediately after Pol2uld’s acceptance of the armistice terms, ‘dealing principally with the reduction of Poland’s armed strength. Russia also undertakes to considerably reduce the Soviet troops holding this line. provided the Allies, and particularly France, undertake not to suport any advance against Russia on any front and arranges the withdrawal‘ of Wrangel’s army from the Crimea. ’ .
