ASSASSINS HIRED BY A WIFE?

An extraordinary case of attempted murder occurred at the lower end of the Wilhelmstrasse, in which the principal Government offices and the British Embassy are situated. Passers-by after closing time heard loud cries for help from a small restaurant, and summoned the police, who arrived in time to see three men run out, one of whom took refuge in a house opposite, where he was subsequently captured, while the other two escaped.
On entering the restaurant, the. police found the landlord lying on the floor with severe wounds in his head, his wife tending him. The captured man, en ex-sailor, states that the wife bribed him and his two companions to murder her husband. A.£.3.5, DOMINION BALLOT. MAJORITY IN FAVOUB OF ACCEPTANCE. WELLINGTON, This Day. The result of the Dominion ballot taken by members of the A.S.R.S., the largest section of the Second Division of raihvaymen, on the acceptance of the finding of the Special Board that sat in Wellington recently, and dealt with the men's demands for increased wage s and better working conditions, has now beeu made public. The figures are not yet available for publication, but it is officially stated that the poll was a large one, and that the majority is definitely in favour of accepting the proposals made by the board.
