RAILWAY MISHAP.
EXPRESS HITS LANDSLIDE. TE KTJITIj July 19. Last night's express from Wellington struck a landslip south of Taihape. Some of the passengers were thrown from their seats, but no damage was done beyond the reported .bursting of the pipe of one engine. The undercarriages and sides of the carriages were well coverd with mud and sand. A big papa rock jambed in the step of the second carriage. One passenger said it was only the speed of the train that carried them through.
IMPETUOUS STOKERS. WELLINGTON GAS SUPPLY THREATENED. WELLINGTON, July 19. Fears were entertained for a period this afternoon that users of gas in Wellington would be seriously inconvenienced, and at one stage it appeared probable that the supply would be cut off altogether to-night. One of the gangs of stokers employed at Miramar, owing to some alleged grievance, knocked.off work with \\pbla warning, and came int*> town to <ion» suit the secretary of the unipc. advised the men to return to ,WQ?k, and they did so after aja atyaence/pf about four hoors.
