RECORD RUSH TO EUROPE.

14.525 U.S. PASSENGERS SAIL IN ONE DAY.

NEW YORK. Eight liners left New York one day this -week carrying 14,525 passengers for Europe. This is the largest number that has ever sailed in the history of the port of New York in one day, except for the transportation of soldiers during the war. The vessels were the Mauretania, Baltic, Mongolia, Caronia, Columbia, Noordam, Due d'Aosta, and Dante Alighieri, all for Great Britain except the last three. „

The Mauretania had so many applications for second cabin berths that the steerage was temporarily converted into second cabins. For this voyage there were 500 first cabin and 1075 second cabin passengers. Over 300 applicants for berths in the Mauretania were turned away. Many offered to sleep in lifeboats if they were allowed on board.
