JOCKEYS’ WAGES RAISED.

o WELLINGTON, July 16. The requests made to Sir GeorgeClifford by a deputation of jockeys were considered to-day by the Conference. Sir George Clifford stated that in view of the high cost of living thejockeys asked for an increase of fees. They asked for a 50 per cent, increase on all losing fees and a flat rate 6f 5 per cent, on all wins or place money where the third prize was £IOO or over, with a pro rata increase to steeplechase and hurdle riders. He referred the "request to the Stipendiary Com* imtice, which 'recommended various increases. Sir George Clifford, in moving the adoption of the committee’s •reeom* nremdations, said that, while otherwages were being increased, jockeys were entitled to an advance + o meet the cost of living.
