BATTLEFIELD MEMORIALS.
STATEMENT BY SIR J. ALLEN.
WELLINGTON, this day.
Sir J; Allen states the national war memorials committee has decided that the site, which is to be in Wellington, is to be selected before designs are invited. A subcommittee ‘has been appointed to report in 21 days on the sites offering, and which it recommends. Four battlefield memorials are to be el'ee.led—’t-wo in France and two in Be}gium—-at the Somme, Mes~ sines, Ypres, and Le Quesnoy; also one at Grallipoli and one in Palestine. The sites have been chosen. in France and Belgium, but the .cbTn'mittee is not satisfied with ‘the position in thew Somme field, and Sir James Allen is to i get it altered when he goes Home. The site preferred is between Delville Wood and High Wood, overlooking Flers. All these memorials will be of! uniform design. A special committee of Hon. J. G. Coates, Generals Russels, Chayltor, and Richardson, T. E. Y. Seddon. M.P.. and the president of the! Returned Soldiers Association will in—' vite designs. I
