KOEKE NOTES.

Some months ago, an enthusiastic gardener, resident in the district, offered the children attending the school, prizes for gardening. Two prizes of £1 each, for the best flower garden, and the best vegetable gastden, respectively, "for children" over ten years of age and two prizes of .10,‘ each, to children under ten years, for similar gardens, of course subject to certain specified conditions as to size and so forth. The judging took place soon after th el9th March, the result being. as follows:. The prize or“ £1 for the best flower garden fell to Cissie Harris, closely followed by her sister Olive. For children under‘ ten the prize of 10/ fell to Sadie H2-rl':'s. Unfortunately there was only one competitor in vegetables, but no hesitation was made in handing the prize of £1 to Lewis Revell, Two other awards of 10/ and, 5/ were also given to Jean Davis ani Ivy Blinkhorn, respectively. for their efforts in the u:o::-.-.-petition. - , - - ‘
The weathernhas now become benu~ tifully fine, except for slight frosts in the mornings, and the grass and vegetable life, generally, ha.s_/e greatly benefitted by the’ late rains-
Fruit, in the shape of apples. pears and quinces, are "now ripening up fast with a good harvest of the sa,m».=.. The roads are again in good» travelling condition.
