BUTTER EQUALISATION FUND.
‘PROBABLE GRANT FROM STATE. WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. It looks cerflain that ‘the butter producers will succeefl in getting from Parliament substantial relief from an. anomaly that butter products alone bear the burden of a lower local rate than the price obtained free on board. The Premier is arranging a, conference with representatives of the industry to discuss the claim that the cost of equalisation should come from the Consolidated Fund_ They point out that the State has already established a loca.l price of flour by means of a guaranteed minimum, backed by the Consolidated Fund. The Leader of the Opposition evidently favours the butter producers obtaining relief, for, in the course of his speech to the 'VWel'lin.9;tnn Libcralsi, when. dealing with the cost of living, he said means must be secured to ensure {that while ordinary business men get a fair profit and absurd cX‘tol‘tioll€ltc charges should be impossible, we wanted our producers to get the highest price fornoufexported produce.
