TO-DAY'S REFERENDUM.

POLLING- RESULTS

A POSSIBLE DELAY.

WELLINGTON, April 9

It is doubtful whether any official announcement regarding the result of the licensing poll will be made by the Government on Thursday night. The position seems to be that although the results from each district will be telegraphed to the Minister for Justice as soon as available on Thursday night, he will not make any preliminary or progress statement upon the national figures. Local details will be obtainable in each district by the press, which the public will probably have to rely upon for an indication how this important question has been determined throughout the country. However, if the national figures show such a decided majority for either issue that the soldiers' votes or other outstanding returns cannot affect the final result, then the Minister for Justice will probably make an official statement. Otherwise there will bo official silence for an indefinite period, especially as the soM'ers' votes not registered may amount to one-fifteenth of the whole.
