MANUFACTURERS' INTERESTS

BOARD OF TRADE ENQUIRY

WELLINGTON, April 9

A conference of representatives of firms interested in the hide trade, including boot manuaeturers, was held ■with the Board of Trade this morning. The conference wag called for the purpose of considering the embargo recently placed upon exports, and the steps taken to assure -a supply ; of hides to local tanners, in order that

bootmakers might have leather at a

reasonable price for manufacturing standard boots. After some discussion on the question th e conference adjourned for a day in order that further 5 information might be obtained.

RESOLUTION AT MASTERTON

MASTERTON, April 9

A meeting of the Mastc-rton branch of the Amalgamated. Society of Eailway Servants was held to discuss the proposed schedule of wages and conditions. The following resolution was carried: "That this branch urges all branches to refuse to accept the conditions and wages offered by the Minister and fthe general manager. We call on our Executive Council to continue to fight Avith the loco men for an increase in' pay and improvements in working conditions, as drawn up by our executive. We request our executive to forward ballot papers immediately for a ballot to be taken by all branches as to whether wc shall accept the conditions, or continue the fight for our just demands."
