BLAZE IN TAIHAPE.

FIVE-ROOMED HOUSE DESTROYED. An alarm of fire was given at 2.5 o'clock this morning. " The fire brigade turned out almost immediately, but as the scene of the fire was away at the extreme end of the town, near, the dam on the Moawhango Road, by the time the brigade got there the house was blazing fiercely, and was completely destroyed. The house, which was of five rooms, was occupied by Mr. J. Kirkpatrick and family, and owned by the estate of R. T. Batloy. Mr. Kirkpatrick is away in Auckland, and Mrs Kirkpatrick left only yesterday for Wanganui. Mr.' Pilchcr, who also lives in the house, was there last night until six o'clock, and everything appeared all right when he left, and he did not return, sleoping at the premises of Mr Pitt. The origin of the frre is a mystery. The house was insured in the South British Office, at Wanganui, and the amount is unknown. The furniture was insured in the Dominions Office for £3oo—piano for £lO5.
