LABOUR DAY SPORTS.
o RED CROSS EFFORT. Nominations for teams for the ladies’ five-a-side hockey tournament for Mr. G. Wrightson’s medals close on Monday, 2ist fust. Nominations must be acompanied with the entry fee or 5s for each team. Nominations for the seven-a-side football tournament for Mr, P. Baird’s medals close also on Monday, 21st inst, and nominations must Be accompanied by an entry fee of 7s for each team. Junior teams entering will be allowed to play nine in the team. Entries will be received on behalf of the committee (by Mr. R. Ongley, S. Dunbar, or the joint secretaries.
Two interesting pedestrian matches have been arranged to take place at the Labour Day sporfs. Mr. Clyde Curtis. the Greymouth sprinter, has accepted a challenge from the local runner, W, J. Muhro, for a match for £3O over three distances —100 yards, 150 ,yapds, r ,and 250 yards. Curtis is the leading sprinter on the Coast at prosent and holder of the Reefton Silver , Cupfor most points in the 100, 220, and 440 yards,. won'' at a recent meeting. A, match over the half-mile course for a stake of £lO has also been arranged between Messrs A. L. Wilson and O. F. Dunkley, both Of Taihape. Both these runners have figured in middle distance events on the .track and both have good times recorded against them over the BSQ course. This should prove a very im teresting and exciting event.
