THE BUTTER SUPPLY.
A PECULIAR POSITION A local business man has received the following letter from the Rata Cooperative Dairy Co., under date of 13 th July, 1918: To our clients—We regret to have to advise that we are unable to keep you supplied with butter. This position has been forced upon us, but we have refrained from advising you sooner, as we were.in hopes of being able to arrange for a supply. Some months ago. when the factories supplying the Wellington market withdrew their supplies, the Government sold 1211 boxes of our butter, which, if we could have withdrawn, would have been more than sufficient for our needs. Now we find that we are unable to buy, although there are thousands of boxes of butter in the country. Factories refuse to soil at the price fixed by ishe Government, and the Government refuse to release any of their stock. As soon as we are in a position to supply we will advise you.
